My home page is set to my providers email, when I open FF it also opens a page I posted on at Bleeping Computer. If I kill the extra and again click the home icon it opens a second mail account page and the one from Bleeping computer. I removed FF and reloaded problem still exists.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Please note I started to do this on my tower then realized the shared data would not be of help to you, this is from the problem laptop.

Check your settings-if anything it probably has two html site saved so it opens the second at the same time. Delete it and that should restore it back to the default you had.

Hello Oldphil,

Your system details show this extension :

Side View Control 0.1.3 (side-view-control@shield.mozilla.org)

Which is part of the Shield Studies - see :

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/shield

Just to check if this extension is causing the problem - would you disable it to see if maybe things will be back to normal  ?

If that doesn't make a difference - would you please check your homepage settings  ?

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-to-set-the-home-page

Although I'm not quite sure from reading your question if this page from Bleeping Computer opens as part of your home page or as a separate tab ..... (?)

Hi I do not use any extensions, so I am not sure what to look for now.

Thanks for your time.

Did you read the article about Shield Studies (see the link I provided)  ?

Would you please type in the address bar about:studies and
press Enter  ?

You should see that extension listed there - and when you do : would you please disable it to see if that will make a difference  ?

I did what you said the only thing that came up was: Multitask like a boss. Side View lets you keep two websites open side by side without switching tabs. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/1501431/ https://

Which had a remove tab which I hit and the tab went away, I then closed and restarted FF problem stayed the same. The same Bleeping Computer page still loads in a separate tab. As I stated earlier I removed FF and reloaded so something stayed behind. There must be a way to do a complete removal, I have my jason file so nothing to lose.

The Side View shield study is about An experiment with opening mobile views of pages in the sidebar.

What is the current home page setting if you check this pref on the about:config page?

  • browser.startup.homepage

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.

I am not adverse to a complete FF removal I have my jason file, I feel that would be an easy way out! As stated earlier I did remove FF but it retained information, is the a way to do a complete removal?

Thanks for your help

You can create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
