I have changed my internet service provider, but I can't stop my computer from auto filling with the OLD info. How do I make FireFox STOP auto-filling?

Hi esl7354, I can think of four possible sources of autofill for a login form:

  1. Saved Login in Firefox
  2. Saved form history entry in Firefox
  3. Text inserted by an add-on
  4. Text inserted by the site based on information from a previous session

For #1, you can clear unwanted logins on the Options page.

  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
  • Any system: type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

In the left column, click Privacy & Security. Then on the right side, find the "Saved Logins" button and use that to open the list where you can remove unwanted ones.

For #2, when your cursor is in the username field, press the down arrow key on the keyboard to highlight the unwanted name in the suggestion drop-down. Press the Delete key (or maybe Shift+Delete) to remove it.

For #3, check your add-ons...

For #4, try reloading the page bypassing the cache. For example, either

  • Shift+click the Reload button in the address bar
  • Press Ctrl+Shift+r => for Mac, Command+Shift+r

That usually will clear form data that Firefox remembers from a previous visit to the page. If the name still appears, you can try clearing cookies for the site.

  • right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Security > "Clear Cookies and Site Data"
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "Clear Cookies and Site Data"
  • click the padlock or "i" icon in the address bar, then the ">" button, then More Information, and finally the "Clear Cookies and Site Data" button

In the dialog that opens, you should see all the possible matches to the current site so you can remove the most relevant cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
