On my Linux workstation running version firefox 66.01 it displayed the message "Firefox us running out of disk space. Websites contents may not display properly. Visit "Learn More" to optimize your disk usage for better browsing experience.

The disk space on my Linux is ample with more than 20 Gig free. can anyone explain the message?

Does that Linux installation use one partition or is there a separate partition where 'home' is mounted as some distribution do to make it possible to update and reformat the rot partition without losing your personal data in the home directory?

In that case this message might be about space on the root partition (used for /tmp/).

The system has 1 partition but as I stated there is no lack of disk space. ff doesn't touch the root partition.

I have also noticed the message "Gah. your tab just crashed" come up several times.

Not meaning to crash this thread but a friend is having this problem repeatedly on Windows 10 with the latest version of Firefox.

Removing and reinstalling Firefox resolves the issue for a while but I can't keep telling him to remove and reinstall Firefox every couple of weeks.

The drive has plenty of space and Firefox shows it is using under a GB.

The problem has not occurred again since restarting FF. I suspect a misread. FF should notify the location or quantity it suspects it is running out of space.

Not really the same issue but different problem are happening. It's sounds more like a bad install or upgrade is the likely case here. If they didn't completely uninstall firefox and delete Mozilla folder the problem will remain. If they go this route backup any BookMarks to restore later then wipe clean firefox and mozilla folder. Make sure to download the latest firefox based on 32 or 64 O/S and then see what happens. I doubt the problem will return. I know I did this when going to FF57+.

I'm not sure how it isn't the same issue as it's the same error. If it isn't the same issue then Firefox needs more informative error messages.

That being said, when I said "Removing and reinstalling Firefox" that included the Mozilla folder. The probalem has returned several times.
