i have a Hughesnet Gen5 internet dish - speeds have consistently been 40 Mbps for the past year or so. yesterday my internet slowed down to 2-8 Mbps on my laptop, and has stayed that slow despite reboots, moving and reinstalling the satellite dish (i'm mobile) etc. i test speed on my iphone and it's 30+Mbps. i switch to another browser, and it's 40 Mbps. are there settings in Firefox that would affect downoad speed this way? i get automatic updates and rarely change any settings. i had changed no settings when this happened.

thanks, Fred! running Firefox in safe mode got me up to 15-20 Mbps, but i am still getting consistent 40-45 Mbps using Chrome and IE on the same device and same internet connection. i will check the other links to see what i can do.

private browsing, which i haven't used before, is as fast as my old connection, 40+ Mbps. what is the cause? is it possible to restore the speed on normal Firefox browsing?
