I got an email from the Colorado Secretary of State, subject line: "Document Filed for Still Plugging Away - xxxxxxxxxx". (I have obscured the account number.) Thunderbird inserted '***SPAM***' at the front. Not only is the message not spam, but now I have to save this message with the misleading header including the '***SPAM***' insert: "***SPAM*** Document Filed for Still Plugging Away - xxxxxxxxxxx".

This is terrible.

Quite right. It was my ISP and I've gotten them to stop it. Sorry about pointing my finger at the wrong culprit.

Hmmm. Looking at the headers, it may be that my email server inserted the spam header. I'll investigate further.

I can assure you is was not Thunderbird. Thunderbird simply does not use the term spam... it uses Junk. It also does not modify subject lines of email it filters as junk.

The insertion of SPAM in the subject line is usually done by either anti virus or the server spam solution. SPAMassassin is often the culprit.
