Youtube's security certificate seems to be messing-up
For the past few days now, YouTube has been messing-up. I've noticed that when I watch certain videos, the green padlock will change to a greyed-out padlock with the little yellow triangle in the url bar. In addition, I've noticed that the list of videos beside the one I'm watching seems to have slipped down the page. I've tried clearing both cookies and cache for YouTube, but nothing seems to have worked. Is this a fault on YouTube's end? If so, then I apologise for posting this here to begin with. If it's not YouTube's fault, then is there a way I can fix this at all, so that no videos show the greyed-out padlock?
Thank you for any advice anyone can offer.

Hello,
With the newest version with FireFox, we are seeing this issue and are looking into it currently.
Hello, and thanks for such a speedy reply!
It had started happening shortly after my Firefox updated; is that really the reason? Do you have an estimate as to when it will be fixed?
I believe this has something to do with a similar issue we've been seeing like at the following article:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1264305
I do not have a timeline on when a fix will be out.
Oh, this isn't about a secure connection error page; I can connect to YouTube just fine. It's just that on certain videos the little padlock is grey with a yellow triangle, and on every video I watch the list of recommended videos on the side only starts about halfway down.
Unless that is similar to the thread you linked me, apologies for my ignorance.
I hope that this issue will be fixed soon.
That makes more sense, I was under the impression it was just loading an old page. This may be something to do with the add-ons that you are using.
I just tried disabling the only add-on that I have - Avira Browser Safety - but that didn't make any difference. While the video I'm currently watching has a green padlock, the list of videos on the side only starts halfway down the page. Is this a Firefox error, or just a YouTube error?
Can you try running it in Safe Mode and see if that fixes it?
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
- Click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
- On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
- On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
- On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.
Thanks, I'll try Safe Mode first. If it disables all add-ons, can I enable them again?

Correct.
I tried Safe Mode and went back to YouTube. Choosing a random video, the padlock in the url bar was green, but the recommended videos on the side started halfway down the page. I've already tried disabling the only add-on that I had enabled anyway, and that didn't change anything.
Is this a YouTube issue more than a Firefox issue?

I'm beginning to believe that may be the case. Does this also happen in IE or Edge?
I just tried it on Edge, and yes, the same thing happens. I'm guessing it's more of a YouTube issue, and as long as I don't do anything reckless if I watch a video that has the greyed-out padlock with the yellow triangle, will I still be safe on YouTube?
I can't speak for the safety, but based off the fact that it's happening in Edge as well, it is most likely something with YouTube.
I've tried sending the issue as feedback to YouTube; I'm not sure if they'll get it or respond at all.
Thank you so much for your help and time with this matter. Hopefully YouTube do fix these problems soon.
Seeing a greyed-out padlock with the little yellow triangle is usually not a certificate issue, but is an issue with mixed content coming over an open HTTP connection being present on a secure HTTPS page.
You can see a special padlock at the left end of the location/address bar.
- a padlock with a strike through means that mixed active content is blocked
- a padlock with an exclamation mark attached means that mixed passive content (e.g. images) is present, but not blocked
Firefox shows the shield icon at the left end of the location/address bar in case Content Blocking is blocking content.
- click the shield icon for more details and possibly disable the protection
I'm guessing it's still a YouTube issue then, and I just have to wait for them to fix it? Both the padlock thing and the whole minor problem of recommended videos showing-up halfway down the page.
