Every time I set my router (Viasat) Firefox just changes it to something unknown on log out, so I can't use WiFi or even get into the router without resetting

I get into the router, set a short password and log out. As I log out I see the password box change to be completely full with well over 20 letters and numbers. I go to 'saved passwords' and try to use the password FFox has set but the router doesn't recognise it. How do I stop FFox overriding me?

You can double-click this password field in the Password Manager to edit its value and make sure it is correct. To prevent Firefox from modifying the password you can set a block exception for this domain.

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security: Logins and Passwords: "Saved Logins" -> "Show Passwords"

Thank you Cor-el. With a BUT!

I didn't know I could reset a password the way you suggest, that appears to be easy. It's this I can't get:-

"To prevent Firefox from modifying the password you can set a block exception for this domain. "

I tried 'help' and there are over 2,800 topics on blocking but I can't find the one that appears to be applicable to what I need to do.

Neil.

You can do this in "Options/Preferences".

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security: Logins and Passwords: Exceptions

A block exception doesn't affect already stored logins, but will prevent Firefox from storing or updating logins from a blocked website.

See "Disabling the Password Manager":
