I just loaded Firefox onto my Windows 7 computer. I can only exit using the menu...I cannot exit in the usual way from the x in the top right corner. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Edwin C. Fogarty

We recommend using the File > Exit to shut down the browser as
using the close window X sometimes causes issues.

Hello Edwin,

The closing X should work .....

Let's try Firefox in Safe Mode :

If Firefox is not running :
Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running :
3-bar menu → '?' (at the bottom of the dropdown) → 'Restart with Add-ons disabled'.
Then OK the restart.
A small dialog should appear.
Click 'Start in Safe Mode' ( not 'Refresh' !)

If it works in Safe Mode, then re-enable your extensions one by one (providing you have any, of course) till you find the culprit.

If it's not an extension that causes the closing X not to work, we'll have to look for some other reason.
