The enlargement of the search bar, yes, surprise!

Starting in Firefox 75, this is the new style when the cursor enters the bar. There's a temporary preference to turn that off in Firefox 75 and 76. In Firefox 77 and later, you'll need to apply custom style rules to tame it.

To avoid a lot of copying and pasting, can I refer you to a page on my website: https://www.userchrome.org/megabar-styling-firefox-address-bar.html

Hi foxlife1284, Firefox has something like a global scaling factor for the user interface and content. Here's how you can adjust that. Please avoid extreme values that make it hard to recover, like 5% zoom or 500% zoom.

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the filter box, type or paste devpix and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click layout.css.devPixelsPerPx and Firefox should open an editing field. Here's what the values mean:

  • -1 => uses your system default scaling (e.g., 125% on Windows, 200% on Retina)
  • 1.0 => non-Retina: fonts rendered at 96 pixels per inch
  • 1.25 => non-Retina: 125% zoom (25% enlargement)
  • 1.5 => non-Retina: 150% zoom (50% enlargement)
  • etc.

I suggest starting with 1.5 and see how that size suits you. If it's still too small, try 1.75 and if it's too large, try 1.25, etc. Can you find a value that makes the toolbars/tabs look right to you?

Thank you, I understand what I want to fix. How can I remove the magnification of the search bar when my cursor is there?
