I have created a mailing list and am trying to add addresses to it from my Personal Address Book. I am unable to drag the address to the list, or any list. I have always been able to do this in the past but now I get the "x" symbol and cannot add the address.

What's your TB version? There were some fixes for drag and drop in Address Book, in the latest 78.2.

80.0b5 (32-bit)

I noticed the same thing in 80b1 and the latest, 81b1: drag and drop from an address book to a mailing list does not copy the contact. But it works if you press Ctrl while dragging and dropping.

Tried that, it did not work

Is your profile one that was previously used in TB 68? It's usually better to create a new profile when moving to 78 from 68, or from the release channel to the beta channel. If the fault lies with the address book, create a new one with placeholder contacts, create a mailing list, and see if drag and drop works with Ctrl.

I am afraid I do not understand your answer. Are you suggesting that I will have to re-input all of the addresses in my address book? This would be way too much.

No, if you create a new profile, the address books in your current profile can be copied to the new one by copying abook.sqlite and history.sqlite into the new profile, with TB closed.

I wonder why you are using the beta version anyway, as it requires more familiarity with profiles and troubleshooting.

I did not know that I had a choice. What version should I be in? I did try to create a new address book and input a couple of addresses and a list. I then tried too drag and it still did not work. I love Thunderbird (and Firefox) but when something like this goes wrong I am at a loss and do not understand why it happened or how to fix it. Should I change to some earlier version then try to get my addresses moved? Yikes. I consider myself computer "friendly" but am not a programmer or software expert.

You should be running 68.12, but it's not a relatively simple operation to transfer your mail and address books to a profile created by 68. The installer for 68.12, 32 or 64 bit, is available for various languages here:

Thanks for trying but I cannot take a chance on doing that and losing all of my addresses. I guess I am stuck where I am. I have no idea how I got into a beta version but can see no way to fix this. I can only hope that on a next iteration of this, the issue of dragging is eventually fixed.
