How can I return from Tbird 78 to 68?

How can I copy Thunderbird 68 from one Mac to another, including the complete profile, address book, etc.?

Explanation: upgraded to Thunderbird 78 last night on my main desktop Mac Mini. Today it can send mail but will not retrieve e-mail. Couldn't solve so I decided to copy 68 from my laptop (MacBook Air) to my desktop. That was a big mistake because Thunderbird is now inoperative because the profiles don't match, and it appears I have to now start all over again to recreate a complex account, which will take hours.

I know the mail server is ok, because Thunderbird 68 is still working normally on my Air. Obviously I know how to simply copy the Thunderbird 68 application over, but where is the other information kept? - (profile seems to be the main thing) so I can delete the now corrupted copy on my Mini and copy a working one over from the Air.

Has anyone else had this problem with Thunderbird 78 unable to retrieve new e-mail? How were you able to fix it? Apparently the upgrade changed some of the server settings, I fixed those, but it didn't solve the problem and now I'm worse off than when I started. :( Thank you for your help, kind of at wit's end here. OS 10.14.6.

You can try install v68 with --allow-downgrade command on existing computer. If Mozilla Thunderbird is installed in the default applications directory, the command line will be /Applications/Thunderbird.app/Contents/MacOS/thunderbird -bin --allow-downgrade or Applications/Thunderbird.app/Contents/MacOS/thunderbird --allow-downgrade Press Enter.

I'm not allowed to post links (yet) - maybe you can find some info searching on Google? Sorry that I can't help more.

OK, so I figured it out. I am not deleting this question so I can post the solution IF you have a working copy of v.68 on another Mac to downgrade to. Since others obviously have the same problem. Here it is.

I upgraded to v. 78 last night and had the same problems, no incoming e-mail, and got the same error message when trying to fix it. Since I have 4 Macs, I decided to revert to v. 68 which was still working just fine. Got no replies to my how-to-revert query on this support page, but finally figured it out. Reported here in case it will help you or others, since apparently this new Thunderbird version was obviously not ready for prime time.

I just reverted to v.68 by copying a working version from my laptop MB Air to my desktop Mini (both running Mac OS 10.14.6). For those interested in reverting until all the bugs in 78 are fixed, just a couple of steps are involved. You must be copying from a working v.68 on another Mac. First, delete the application; I also deleted the dock icon just in case. Next on your destination computer, in user/library delete the Thunderbird folder (mine had 6 files in it). Your address book is in there so you won't get it back, you'll be substituting the version from v.68.. Copy those two items (the Thunderbird v.68 application and Thunderbird folder from the user/library) from the other computer into the same respective locations in your destination computer. Thunderbird should launch and work properly (mine did after doing this, thank goodness).
