I just updated Thunderbird to version 78.2.2 and when I try to open the application I am asked for a master password. This has never happened before and I don't think I have ever set a master password. If I hit cancel two or three time Thunderbird open but my account and all emails are gone!

How do I fix this? thanks.

If you don't remember having a master password you might remove it, but the passwords saved previous by you in TB will be removed and you will need to enter them once again... https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/protect-your-thunderbird-passwords-master-password#w_removing-your-master-password-if-the-master-password-has-been-forgotten

Try starting TB in safe-mode (hols shift button on your keyboard while launching TB) and when it open if you don't see the menus press alt button on your keyboard to see them.

Safe-mode or not all the menu items are dead, you can select them but nothing happens.

Try to close also also you internet connection (just disable it) so that TB can't go online...
