After updating to v.89 with new UI, i no longer can close tabs by clicking mousewheel while coursor is on the tab I intend to close. No setting for middle-click was found in the menus.

How do I restore old behaviour on Firefox 89? For now, downgrading version seems like the only option.

Sorry for false alarms, checked around for other issues, seems like windows pushed some generic touchpad driver in place of vendor-specific, so that's why physical middle-click was borked.

God, how I hate update policies breaking corporate devices, no user-input required. Thanks anyways!

Hmm, it's working for me, at least in this window that has wide tabs (not too many tabs open yet).

There isn't a preference for this in about:config as far as I know, only for closing by double-click (browser.tabs.closeTabByDblclick).

Are other middle-clicks working normally, such as opening a link in a new tab by middle-clicking?

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window
