Thunderbird setup will not accept credentials. I have confirmed my email and password work by accessing email through firefox. "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username, password" is the error message. Figuring out how to move addresses et al is an issue too. I have the original HDD in an exterior USB box.

AT&T accounts require that a secure mail key be used in TB instead of the att.net password, which will still work for webmail.

Remove the passwords from Saved Passwords in Options/Privacy & Security, restart TB, enter a key when asked for a password.

Who is the mail provider, and what are your settings? Authentication might require something different than the password that works for webmail.

att is the provider. What Thunderbird calls "Username" is my email address and my att.net password. I can log on to emails at att.net with both of those. So...??? The configuration Thunderbird made automatically. Does that answer your question?
