Hi,

I have a very special problem. I have a Macbook Pro (2012) with MacOS 12.4. The old MacBook Pro is not supported by Apple.

Since the update a few days ago, Firefox won't play all videos (for example vimeo.com, youtube.com (not always)). Some videos will be played.

I tried it with deleted cache and website data, with no luck. I tried it with disabled hardware acceleration also with no luck. It also won't work with a new und empty profile (without any extensions).

The sides are loading the video but the playback won't start. Sometimes I get a spinning loading wheel. I suspect the advertising before the videos. Or it is a problem with graphic-libraries from macos, that do not work propper with my MacBook Pro.

With other browser (Chrome, Safari etc.) all videos will be played.

I now, it was my decision to switch to an unsupported OS on my old computer, but everything works (except for Firefox) and I get two more years security updates. I don't want to switch to another browser. :-(

Best regards Kay

Show the issue, any error messages? Try a different version of Firefox and see what happens. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/#product-desktop-release

No, no error message. Why should I try another (older?) Firefox version? Which one? I always use the latest version. The same browser version on MacOS 10.5.7 (latest official supported version) has no problems with videos.

This is called testing... to see if you have the issue with a different version. Just click the link and try dev, beta, or nightly.

Let me bring out my Macbook from 2012 running 10.13.6 and see if it works.

I have no problems with the old versions but I installed an unsupported (by Apple) version of MacOS on my old MacBook Pro (MacOS 12.4). I used OpenCore (https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/).

I have no problems with Firefox on MacOS 10.5 und before. But I installed an unofficial (by Apple) MacOS on my old MacBook Pro (MacOS 12.4). I used OpenCore (https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/)

Thats why I guess that it could by a graphic driver problem or something with DRM. On the other hand, it works in Chrome and Safari.

It works for me. see screenshot

I speak of MacOS 12.4 (Monterey).

If it was a DRM issue you would normally get an indicator about it.

Did you try another version of Firefox?

Yes, now, I installed the nightly version. Same problem. An example video on vimeo loads 10 % but nothing happens when pressing play or pause.

That's interesting that the other browsers work and Firefox does not. Maybe someone more web savvy will chime in.
