Why does Firefox suddenly ignore the fact that I checked the 'always ask me' box regarding where to download files and puts them in the downloads folder? this very annoying.

Version 102 contains a preference in about:config which you can set to true to enable saving to your temp folder.browser.download.start_downloads_in_tmp_dir

Thank you for that. I don't think I'd better be messing around in things so far above my head though. I wish Firefox Had not messed that up. It's just annoying to suddenly have to go find your download then move it to where you wanted it to go in the first place. Why fix things are not broken? It isn't the biggest problem ever, But it was sure nice when you could simply direct files to the destination folder of your choice. Did they think this was an improvement?
Thanks you very much! I went ahead and followed the instructions I was a bit concerned that i might mess something up. However I found it to be extremely easy. It worked perfectly. So Again Thank you!
Please Ignore the long post by Dropa above.

'DO NOT follow the advice by Dropa to deactivate the' ... improvements_to_download_panel preference. It is an old solution that turns off all download panel improvements. Setting the new browser.download.start_downloads_in_tmp_dir preference to true in about:config is the correct solution for your issue in Firefox 102 and above. Please be careful with all about:config changes. Please read Firefox Advanced Customization and Configuration Options to learn more.

Dropa's long post post has outdated information for Fx 102 and later. Please see the quote in my above reply above by AliceWyman. Terry's reply had the correct preference.
