Firefox 3.6.3 crashes at start-up. I'm very frustrated with Firefox. I've researched through out the forum posts and tried everything I've found about FF not starting. A previous version of FF was running OK then one day when I tried using FF again and it now crashes at start-up. It will not start period. If I didn't need FF for this one particular application then I would just use another browser. I've been looking for a solution for this problem for many many weeks. Someone please help.

Computer is running Vista

Some days I think it would be less painful to beat my head against a brick wall then to deal with computers.

please help if you can, TE

The most likely cause of this crash is an extension, such as Real Player Browser Record Plugin. To see if this is the case, start Firefox in Firefox Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode. (If this fixes the problem, you can figure out which extension by following the steps at Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems)

This crash may also be caused by a corrupt file in the installation folder. If starting in Firefox Safe Mode did not fix it, try these steps:

  1. Hold down the Windows logo key and press R to bring up the Run dialog.
  2. Type %PROGRAMFILES% (or %PROGRAMFILES(x86)% on 64-bit Windows and press OK.
  3. Right click on the Mozilla Firefox folder and press Rename__.
  4. Type in a new name, such as Old Firefox
  5. Press Yes to confirm the name change
  6. Install Firefox normally from http://www.mozilla.com

Thanks for the suggestions ZZXC

I tried your suggestions and neither solved the problem. I'll keep looking.

After a live chat session with ZZXC I removed the SysHook.dll file, removed Firefox from my computer, downloaded a new copy of Firefox, installed the new copy of Firefox.

The program still crashes upon start-up.

The debugging procedure is over my head and I don't want to go into that much depth in a computer. I just want to run Firefox.

I also tried creating / removing my profile. Firefox won't even allow me to do this because it crashes trying to do this function as well.

If you haven't already, scan with these programs:

If you can easily back up your data, you may want to consider re-installing Windows. This is the only sure way to get rid of 100% of viruses.

If you want me to walk you through the windbg steps, you can try to find me in Live Chat or at irc://irc.mozilla.org/firefox

FF is crashing on my computer with only one tab open and is running slow.....pauses for about 30 seconds when I close FF. Annoying.

I have tried everything posted except reloading Windows. I guess that is the next step unless anyone has anymore suggestions.
