When I try to open an attachment in gmail, I don't have that option. Instead, it only lets me save it. How do I get the choice to just open it?

Any particular kind of attachment?

I got a PDF from a vendor. When I click the Download link in GMail, I get the open/save dialog. I think this is based on having "always ask" here:

Tools > Options > Applications

Enter in search box: pdf

If you can find your document type in that list, hopefully this will help.
