I am trying to install flash on my machine and can install it in IE 8 but not in FF 3.6.8. I am logged in as admin on this machine with no current AV program running, running Win XP SP3 32 bit. I started having problems with flash and FF 3.6.8 right away- the browser would freeze and hang while "loading" remained on the tab- until it would time out. I could close the browser but then would need to close the application in task manager to truly shut it down. Yesterday I re-imaged my machine reinstalling firefox and tried many times to install flash. The install seems to be awaiting input from the user but no "yellow bar" ever appears at the top of the browser window. I have added adobe.com to the sites allowed to install plugins manually, but even this doesn't resolve the problem. The install still just sits there forever with the plugin finder service never apparently finding and installing the plugin. The adobe Download manager downloads fine but the flash player does not. FF has been my favorite browser for years and I am hoping not to have to go back to IE. Please Help! Thanks In advance!

Have you contacted Adobe about this? Flash is their software.

That said, hopefully this support article is what you need:

The instructions on the Adobe site are outdated and do no longer apply to current Firefox versions and you can ignore those instructions and save the Adobe installer to your desktop and start the installation with a double-click on that file. See How do I edit options to add Adobe to the list of allowed sites

You can find the links to download the Flash plugin for Windows at the bottum of this page: Adobe - Common Flash Player download and installation issues (Windows):

Go to: 3. Download Adobe Flash Player

  1. . Flash_Player_10_Plugin (All other Windows browsers)

Hi Thanks for the responses both Morbus and Cor-El. In response to Morbus, yes I did post on Adobe's forum (their company support is $39.00 per issue- a bit pricey to support a free plugin) No responses yet that have helped me resolve the issue. Cor-El: I did manually add www.adobe.com to the list of sites allowed to add plugins but this did not change the problem...

I had a similar problem at one point with Firefox and Flash and doing this resolved it.

Go to this page and uninstall your Flash with the software provided by Adobe here:

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html

Then go to this Adobe page and reinstall the latest version of Flash.

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

It was critical for me anyhow to unistall the old version via the software provided at the first site then reinstall the Flash Player. It should load as a Plug In automatically within Firefox.

If you have the add-on FlashBlock. Then a whole other issue is at work which I have also worked through using their "whitelist" of wewb sites feature. Let us know if this works for you.

I finally got this problem solved due to input from the adobe forums. Adobe's graphics on the install dialog box are really awful, and there is a barely visible check box next to "agree" to the terms and conditions for the flash player. This HAS to be checked before the installation will continue. Once you click that, you will be on your way...
