Java site sez to enable Java to run on MFF may have to go to EDIT menu and select Preferences on drop down menu. I have no 'Preferences' on drop down menu and javascript shows in tools but javaappalets (or whatever ) does not- help!

Those are instructions for Firefox on Linux OS's.

Tools > Addons > Plugins on Windows.

It is also Tools > Addons > Plugins on Linux and OS X.

In Firefox 3.6 the Java plugin is treated just like all other plugins and no longer has a enable check box in Tools > Options > Content. You can enable or disable plugins including Java via Tools > Add-ons > Plugins

I have followed the instructions to install the Java Plugin (jre-6u21-linux-i586-rpm.bin) on my CentOS 5.5 system running Firefox 3.6.9

I HAVE DONE THIS OVER AND OVER AGAIN ACCORDING TO THE INSTRUCTIONS HERE: (even uninstalled and reinstalled both Firefox and Java)

http://www.java.com/en/download/help/linux_install.xml

I have the symbolic link in the plugins folder in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins (along with the adobe flash plugin).

When I go to Tools => Add-Ons => Plugins only this NPAPI Wrapper shows and the Shockwave Flash.

I CANNOT GET JAVA TO SHOW OR WORK ON MY FIREFOX.

What in the world - I'm ready to throw out Linux completely as I've spent a FULL day doing something that has taken me 10 seconds on a Windows machine REGARDLESS of the web browser I was using.

Any suggestions?

I'm lost. My Webmail (email) has presented me with a problem. I can not compose, nor edit drafts. It says I have a "java" problem. My error console is filling up fast. (Of course I can work in MS Internet explorer.)

So how is this going to be fixed.

I uninstalled 3.6.10, reinstalled it. No need to tell you what happens trying to install java console, etc.

At least post here why Firefox has CLOBBERED Java? and whats to be expected in the NEAR future....
