Normal links from Microsoft Outlook have stopped opening in Firefox and instead a box pops up saying locate exe file so I choose firefox and does not open saying there is a problem with this and firefox may not be installed properly. This has only started to happen since the new update of firefox was installed. I have checked basic connections, along with firewall and all look correct.

I too have a very similar problem (I don't use MS Outlook) - links from the Windows Update dialog don't do anything! Literally nothing happens. My default browser is set to Firefox. However, if I change my default browser to Google Chrome for example, then the links work OK. So it does seem to be a Firefox issue.

I first noticed this erroneous behaviour around 2010-10-23, whilst installing Windows Updates. The problem persists.

Windows XP, Firefox 3.6.13
