IE 8 and 9 beta have an option to force compatibility within the browser for web sites that use older technology. Does Firefox have the same option? If so, where is it?

Firefox does not have an equivalent option.

You can install an add-on that will switch to the IE rendering engine for sites that do not display properly in Firefox. It does this by opening IE within a Firefox tab. There are a couple of versions of this add-on, IE Tab 2 and IE Tab Plus.

Newer IE versions needs such a button because newer version try to be more W3C compliant and that breaks websites that rely on the behavior of older IE versions. Firefox has always been W3C compliant and doesn't need a compatibility mode.
