How can I permanently disable the Add-On bar on 4.0?
Version 4.0 - Windows XP:
The Add-On bar (located on the bottom of the window) takes up too much space and I don't need it for anything, so want it permanently hidden.
I have done the basic right-click and de-select Add-On bar and the add-on bar does go away, but then it keeps reappearing whenever I open a new tab, or sometimes even going back 1 page on a current tab.
I also just did the restart of firefox in safe-mode and reset toolbars and controls, but this did not help either.
Any suggestions on how to permanently disable the Add-On bar?
Thank you in advance for any replies.

It should remain hidden, but some add-ons can cause it to re-appear. I have seen reports that the McAfee Site Advisor causes it to re-appear.
To find out what add-on is causing your problem, you can use the procedure in this link - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
Do follow the steps in the link above. If you do not want to disable the add-on that is causing trouble, try checking its settings. Often you can disable add-on bar/status bar buttons which tend to cause this problem. In my case it was the Zotero extension and unchecking the status bar icon option did the trick
