I can get sound on internet explorer, but since v. 4 of firefox can't get website sound. I use Kaspersky.
I just installed v. 4. Worked fine until I was on a website and adjusted sound volume for it to lower volume. but I did hit another key on the keyboard at the same time by accident. Im not on mute. I've tried turning computer on and off. I can get itunes sound on firefox. On windows explorer I can get sound on the same websites accessed on firefox and there was then no sound. I'm thinking maybe v. 4 has too many problems. Maybe I'll go to Safari, but I always liked previous versions of firefox. I'm using an HP with 4 processors. Good machine too. laptop. How can I get back to previous version 3.6 or something like that. This v. of firefox reminds me of microsoft updates causing troube for me and my frineds. Thank, Robert Armstrong

Hi Robert,
You can downgrade to v3.6.16 by downloading it from here: Download Firefox v3.6.16
Uninstall the current version via Add/Remove Programs choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc. Then reboot and run the installation file you downloaded.
Maybe you could check the manual for your HP laptop. There might be a key combination you inadvertently enabled which is causing the problem.
What about Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode. Have you tried that? If it works properly in that configuration, one of your add-ons is the culprit, although judging by what you've written, I don't think so somehow in this particular case.
I notice to that you don't have the Shockwave for Director plugin installed. Some sites need that for playback. You can download it from here: Download Shockwave For Director
It's also worth checking the status of your other plugins on the Plugins Check page.
Maybe you can glean some info from here too: What to do if Firefox won't play any sounds
P.S. Sorry it took so long to respond to your question.

The no sound on firefox was corrected by change to Quicktime plug in. I'm so grateful. Thank you. workrancy
