With my windows xp, I installed firefox 4. However, I want to go back to 3.5 or 3.6. I tried the following steps to change from firefox 4 back to version 3.6, However, to no avail I still have firefox 4. It will not restore back to the previous version.

The steps I followed were:

-I clicked start -i clicked help and support -I clicked undo changes to my computer with restore system -I selected restore my computer to an earlier time -selected the dates that were in bold type from the calendar and clicked next. RESULT: computer cannot restore to an earlier date try another date. I tried all dates that were in bold type.

PLEASE help! I want the older version (3.5 or 3.6) of firefox and my add-ons back

Thanks so much

Do not use system restore to go back to earlier versions of Firefox, it can cause Firefox to stop working.

To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.

You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.

To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.

TonyE,

Thanks so much. I followed your advice and everything worked out well.

When firefox 4 was installed only extensions.cache and extensions.ini were not in my profile folder. Now that firefox 3.6 is installed, extensions.ini and extensions.sqlite are not in my profile folder. Is this normal?

Again, your help was and is well appreciated. Thanks, Screamingnow

When I upgraded to Firfox 4.01 I no longer can download videos to my Real Player Plus program. This is an important program to me.

Thanks, Pat

Hi daystar,

If you want to convert back to firefox 3.6, TonyE's solution was excellent. It worked well for me.

If you can't see the advice, it was as follows:
