Pages that require flash (YouTube for example) are saying I need Flash installed. The dropdown bar in firefox pops up a window that runs through getting the required plugin, but fails to install. pressing the "Manual Install" button sends me to the Adobe Flash download page. Flash installs successfully and Adobe provides the evidence with their test page, but videos and games still require the latest version of Flash.

The link within the Plugin Finder Service window says "Find out more about plugins or manually find missing plugins" leads me to Mozilla's Plugin check page. In a highlighted box, it says "For your safety, Firefox has disabled your outdated version of Flash. Please upgrade to the latest version." Linking me to the same Flash download page as before.

What version is reported at http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ ?

It doesn't say. Firefox disabled Flash. When I install the latest version, it takes me to a page saying install successful, which then says "11.0.1.152"

I've installed the latest debug player for Linux (11.0.1.152), and Firefox has detected that it's 'outdated' and has 'helpfully' disabled it.

Is there a way to turn this off? If I wanted a Nanny, I'd hire one.

Need a way to override FireFox on what is disables and what it does not. To simply disable automatically and give the user no way out is not very open-source of Mozilla.

I run Linux 11.10 and have installed the latest Adobe Flash on my system - repeatedly, and yet Firefox keeps disabling it!!!! Please give us a work-around!

A WORK AROUND: The problem is that the original flash plug-in used is the generic alternative in /usr/lib/mozilla/plug-in. Try the following:

  1. sudo bash
  2. cd /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
  3. mkdir old
  4. mv flash* old
  5. cp /usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin/libflashplayer.so .

This is what cured the problem with mine. 11.10 of Ubuntu and its offshoots seem to have a problem in removing old files and installing new ones. This is but one example, and one that will keep you from running the newest flash content.

I have this problem too. I just installed Firefox for the first time today and Flash doesn't work. If I go to tools/addons, then check to see if my plug-ins are up-to-date it then brings me to the screen with a message that says, "Missing FLASH? For your safety, Firefox has disabled your outdated version of Flash. Please upgrade to the latest version." I uninstalled my old version of Flash, reinstalled the new version through Windows Explorer (which works fine with it), then uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox. I still get the same "Missing FLASH? etc.," message. Flash is new and is definitely enabled (on my Dell Inspiron 6000 computer with Windows XP). I checked the system requirements and everything ought to be fine but it still doesn't work. When I go to the Adobe Flash page to re-down load it through Firefox all it shows is text and nothing happens when I push 'download now' (which I shouldn't have to do because it's definitely enabled and installed on my computer); it flips me back to the same screen.
