Those are not images in your GMail, they are text buttons as part of a web form, possibly you have some theme set up for Google. You might see if "use my colors" under Tools > Options > Content > Colors works (don't forget to put setting back afterwards).

You might want to install the following -- they do exactly the same as your Options, but they are easier to access as toolbar buttons the visibly show being toggled on or off.   Custom Toolbar Buttons Maker select "Toggle Page Colors", install, move custom button to toolbar. Toggles preferences, removes some but not all images (loses the entire MozillaZine banner exactly same as the preference). Another button that can be included is "Page Fonts", which toggles page fonts between your colors and the web page's colors. Another button that may be needed to read some pages is "Toggle Styles" to toggle CSS styling off or back on.

Lets look at the images on Google images with something anybody can test without logging into anything -- hedge hog. When I use "More Images" at the bottom of the page, the image areas are all gray for a couple of seconds then they fill in.

Try clearing your cache (you said you did that), something is slowing you down. The pictures will be rendered faster in a currently displayed area, try using the scrollbar to scroll down or up. Do you have a fast connection or dial-up. Try this page

Some additional checking:

Your images are practically unviewable, appear to be low resolution thumbnails taken with a camera. You have in Windows 7 (and Vista) the "Snipping Tool" see Posting a screen shot on the forum. I use PicPick (http://www.picpick.org) so I can crop and annotate.

Make sure that your security software (firewall) isn't blocking images.

I see a redirection block on your second screenshot.

See:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > General : Accessibility : [ ] "Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page"

The setting in "Tools > Options > Advanced > General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.
