I found that everything is available by clicking on the orange Firefox box in the upper left hand corner of the home page.
The problem could have been avoided if message about the changes had been sent previously to explain how the changes to the home page would effect how web pages would be accessed.
I don't know that you can really change people, but the current state of affairs is to tell people basically nothing and see how they do without instructions, without tutorials, and without telling them they can put things back or how to put things back is seriously detrimental to progress and most likely wastes millions of hours of other peoples time for every hour they invest in.
Here's my instructions for how to put things back to what was there before, and I have a lot of changes, Old or new way both have the same height for the toolbars but the old toolbars have customized toolbar with extension buttons and menus modified by extensions so that Firefox is not just just another browser, though that status is in serious jeopardy.
You can make Firefox 8.0 look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6). Whether or not you make changes, you should be aware of what has changed and what you have to do to use changed or missing features.
There is a lot more beyond those first 10 steps listed, if you want to make Firefox more functional.
You obviously have extensive knowledge about how Firefox works, and I appreciate your response. Now that I have found out how to find everything, I don't feel it is necessary for me to go through the pain of going back to an old format. I totally agree with your comments in the first paragraph of your response.
