I installed and uninstalled Aurora yesterday, and also upgraded to FF8. One, or a combination, of these actions has removed all my bookmarks. There are just two json files in \Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\x0a3sceq.default\bookmarkbackups that have the default bookmarks. Brilliant.

Sounds that you have selected to remove your personal data when you uninstalled Aurora.
Choosing that option will remove all Firefox profiles listed in profiles.ini and not only the profile(s) created via that Firefox version.

You can try to recover (undelete) the deleted profiles and their data with Recuva.

Thanks for the reply cor-el. I was able to find an old password file using Recuva, but FF wouldn't import the bookmarks, so I had to copy and paste them into one of the new back-up files and use that. The most annoying thing is that all my saved passwords are now long gone.

To restore the passwords you need signons.sqlite, but also the key3.db file with the matching encryption key.
Without the correct key3.db file there is no access to the passwords possible.
