1) You will get much better results if you say what is "not cool"

2) There are serious risks to running an old version

3) https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Installing%20a%20previous%20version%20of%20Firefox?s=downgrade&r=0&as=s#os=win&browser=fx8

"not cool" is that 8.0.1 downloads and disables our add ons and extensions, including my anti-virus. I contact the anti-virus support team and I am informed that the new version of Firefox does not support many software manufacturer's products. That is "not cool", how will you fix it? I restored my system to go back to the 7.0.1 version and it will not open instead I get a Crash Report. The 7.0.1 version is still in my programs, however it's crashed and when I go to Mozilla I get the same spin, download 8.0.1 I don't think so, I like having Internet Security and Firefox has all of my info for work in the browser that I cannot open...how would you feel if you could not work for the past three hours!?!

I have spent a lot of time in the last couple of days trying to figure out what happened to firefox 8.0.0, and then 8.0.1. As with other people, I got crashes shortly after startup, and I believe that there is little doubt that it is the new security measures in 8.0. It seemed to be associated with being asked for a password and then not being able to respond immediately on startup to all the requests for passwords that I get. I don't want to save my passwords in firefox, because I believe that could be a security risk.

I run a lot of tabs because I work in IT, as do many people, and that is one of the great strengths of firefox, right up to version 7.0.1. I was using tab grouping, and found it very useful.

You should definitely offer older versions until you have your newer versions working well enough, past beta even. I had to uninstall and reinstall an archived version of 7.0.1 to write this.

Firefox 8.0 has been out since November 8 so the antivirus companies have had a long while to update their extensions now. Though many are getting better at having them ready for new release or shortly after like Norton has been doing since Firefox 5.0. You may need to do a update in your unnamed software to get new extension version.

Also just so you know, Addons is not one thing but rather a word that groups together the Separate Extensions, Themes, Plugins, Persona themes, search engines, dictionaries and such.

The only thing that likely was disabled was any old extensions that were not up to date. It does Not disable your separate antivirus client.

@msinkm, you should start a new thread please.

I had previously checked the crash reports, but all the lockups I got where CPU 1 on the quad machine I use went to 100% utilization and FF went unresponsive were not reported as crashes, and there were many as I tested.

I could give you a list of the extensions I have installed for firefox. Perhaps that would provide some clues. In particualar, perhaps some of the AVG extensions may conflict. That is something I didn't rule out.

The other thing I haven't ruled out is some kind of memory leak associated with the large number of tabs I run in various groups.

I started using the session manager plugin to compensate for the crashes, and I found that if I started FF in a tab group that did not ask for a password, I could get it to run successfully until I switched to one that did. (But not every time.) Of course, I tried things like clearing the cache, rebooting, and making sure everything I use is up to date like AVG, flash, java, quicktime, and adobe reader.
