Why is Firefox continually making new profiles? This is the third time today, and I'm sick and tired of it!!!!!!! Ubuntu 11.10, Firefox 8.0

This is getting really annoying. I am very tempted to uninstall Firefox and move to Chrome. However, I'm willing to give Firefox another chance, if someone can help me.

I've been using Firefox on Ubuntu for 5+ years, and have never had this problem before and on Windows before that.

Thank you,

Apologies, but I retract the question. Firefox was not the culprit, but a victim.

What I found is that the Cisco AnyConnect VPN software that my company uses is the root cause, and I had connected three times yesterday to address issues while taking a vacation day :(.

Anyway, either the Cisco software is removing data from my profile (which seems most likely to me as the bookmarks, signons, cookies, etc. files are all missing from the old profile) or it is causing Firefox an issue when Firefox is exiting preventing Firefox from writing the above files.

BTW, the Cisco software also screwed up my iptables rules and added entries to resolv.conf to use their DNS servers both of which made it impossible for me to access my LAN. Got that cleaned up, and removed the Cisco software. Now trying to figure out how to connect to my company using vpnc, and if that doesn't work tell them they have to buy me another laptop (which I used to have...cheap @#$)

So again, apologies for the question, Robert
