Several months ago I noticed that the checkboxes are no longer displayed beside each email in my inbox, and in the other boxes, when I use Firefox. They are displayed when I use Internet Explorer, so I have had to use the latter in order to manage my webmail, e.g. delete, move, etc. This is only happening when using my netbook. The boxes display when I use Firefox on my desktop. I only use my netbook when travelling, which is why I have not dealt with this sooner.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Make sure that you allow pages to choose their colors and that you haven't enabled High Contrast in the Accessibility settings.

Thanks, cor-el, for the reply and proposed solutions. It took me several hours of moving through your suggestions and I finally resolved the issue. Actually, I do not know which of the various actions I took actually solved it. The resolution appeared to follow my very last action, the download of the latest version of Firefox, version 12, which is odd because one of my first steps was to go to Firefox to establish whether I had the latest version, which the system confirmed I already had, but then appears to have "changed it's mind". Just so it's known, I also initially went through the step of starting Firefox in Safe Note and the result was that the problem persisted, which was one of outcome options. I then explored my plugins,as was suggested, and upgraded what needed to be upgraded, e.g. Silverlight, Adobe, etc. Still no resolution. I then proceeded to attempt to reset Firefox (i.e. the settings), as was suggested, which the system declined because of my Firefox version. It was suggested I download the Beta version to facilitate doing this, but somehow apparently, I think, the download failed. Then I was prompted to download version 12 instead. And the check boxes reappeared!! Thanks!
