starting firefox gives a black screen with address p.gif (gifimage, 1x1 pixels), restarting in safe mode has no effect
starting firefox gives a black screen, except for the yahoo toolbar, with the address p.gif (gifimage, 1x1 pixels) being the only indicator. Once on this screen I can go to yahoo or any other web address. Yahoo is set as my default page.
Disabling all plug in's and add on's and the restarting in safe mode has no effect!
Can you please help?

Some firewalls like Kaspersky can block content and send a 1x1 GIF image instead.
See if you can find a setting like this:
- Kaspersky: Protection > Firewall > Filtration system: disable the "Banner Ad Blocker"
Hi, Many thanks for the prompt reply. However, I only use Microsoft Security Essentials and the Window firewall. Cannot find any reference to "Banner Ad Blocker".
I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox, but to no affect.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Creating a profile":
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.
