Firefox won't let me pay bills but Internet Explorer will. E.g. 24ace.co.uk

I start to fill in details to pay a bill on a supplier's website. Firefox never gives me a successful completion. On some websites, I get as far as the "VISA Verify" last stage and then get a message that there has been a problem. On 24ace website, I only get as far as choosing to pay by Debit Card when the process stops before I get to the stage of entering the card details. Internet Explorer works first time every time. My operating system is VISTA32

Try using "Mozilla Firefox Beta" is the most complete version of Firefox.

I don't like to say this, but don't follow XxDrAKoNxX's advice above. As far as I know, there's no reason why the beta would work better on that site than the regular release.

Anyway, have you got any extensions installed? I remember NoScript causing problems for me for various payment sites a while ago (an XSS issue springs to mind). If you have that, you could get it to ignore the site you're buying from. Maybe try with all your extensions disabled (if you have any). You can do that via Help>Restart with Addons Disabled. Try that and report back if it fails with extensions disabled.

Drakon may be thinking some new fixes in the beta version of Firefox might have fixed this particular problem. Although I am not that confident after using many versions of Firefox and the different types of builds they have (nightly, beta and release).

My advice is to stay on the current Firefox you have. I don't think there's any immediate solution to your problem as some websites are incompatible with Firefox and must update the broken website code on their site.

I'll try a test purchase on http://24ace.co.uk when I can and see if I get the same problem as you.

One easy thing to try is clearing your cookies and cache to see if that helps.

To clear cache and cookies:

  • Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history

If no Firefox button is shown, go to Tools > Clear recent history.

  • Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
  • Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
  • From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
  • Now click the Clear now button.

This is a guess, because I don't use the DoNotTrackMe extension, but it has been identified as creating issues on some sites, particularly where there might be a hand-off between servers (it's not always clear which are advertising servers and which have desired content). You may need to turn it off or make an exception for some sites to work properly.
