Working with a training site that requires Java. I have the latest Java Runtime build (7-55), Firefox blocks seem to be noted specifically on builds 25 to 44, but maybe later builds as well. My build is blocked. I've tried an article that describes unblocking on a trusted site, but cannot find how to get the Java icon into the address bar to access unblock options. Compaq Presario running XP, 2.2 GB memory, 500 GB disk space, ADSL2+ connection to supplier. The base problem is delay and distortion of sounds in games designed to measure reflex speed, and Java being blocked is the only incompatibility I can find with published requirements.

Many thanks, Alice; I've been chasing the wrong hare. Considering the Java platform plugin, it's allowed, and so my core problem of distorted sound is not to do with plugins, and maybe not Mozilla. Big step forward.

Try this

Enable Java for all

  • Type about:addons in URL and Enter
    • Goto Plugins > Java > Change to "Always Activate"

Thanks for trying, Jaya. The option "Always Activate" is not offered, only a choice between "Ask to Activate" which seems ineffective, and "Never activate". Attached is a copy of the screen I think is involved.

You're screenshot is of the Java Deployment Toolkit plugin, which is blocked by Mozilla and not needed for Java to work.

The plugin that is used for Java content is the Java Platform plugin, "Next Generation Java Plug-in 10.55.2 for Mozilla browsers".

See Use the Java plugin to view interactive content on websites and http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java#Java-related_issues for more information.
