Words are underlined and provide links to websites that have nothing to do with the website I'm on. As well, I'm getting a pop up video advertisement that started the same time these links showed up. How do I stop this?

You may have an unwanted extension that is injecting those ads into sites. Try this:

Disable ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.

Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Does that flush the ads?

Note: If no Remove button appears for an extension, you usually can uninstall it through the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program. I suggest clicking the "Installed on" column heading to group by date so you can see whether any bundled items slipped onto your computer during a recent free software install.

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

I'm not sure what did it exactly...because I deleted/enabled several things at the same time. There were no add-ins on firefox or google chrome...but I disabled Evernote plug in and deleted a couple programs. Thank you...!
