firefox will not allow typing in the address bar how do i fix that
After the last Firefox update, both Firefox and IE will not allow anything to be typed into the address bar, forcing me to use the search bar to type in an address that I wish to access and then it gives me suggestions for the web sites. How can I correct this and be able to use the address bar "awesome bar" to enter a website I want to access?
The address bar simply will not allow you to "click" on it.

If it affects more than one browser, it sounds as if the problem is something in the operating system.
I just brought up IE and it will allow me to type in the address bar, it is only on Firefox.
Can you try to start Firefox in Safe Mode to see if Firefox works properly with no error? You can start Firefox in Safe Mode below:
- Windows/Mac: Go to Help > Restart with add-ons disabled
- Linux: Run firefox -safe-mode in the Terminal/Konsole
If Firefox opens up fine with no problems, it's probably one of your extensions that's causing the issue. You can re-enable your add-ons one by one until you find the one that causes the issue upon being re-enabled.
Try to open a new window to see if the location bar works in that new window. You can close the not working window.

You can start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
- Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
I can type into the address bar, but clicking on the "go" arrow does nothing!
What happens if you press the Return key instead?
I've tried that as well - no response. It was as if I had done nothing at all to change the page that I was looking on. I can left or right click on a link on a page and the browser will respond properly. I just get no response from clicking the "go" arrow after I've entered anything into the URL/address field.

Hi RustyCP
Did you try all above posted suggestions (Safe Mode, new window)?
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
See "Creating a profile":
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
