make sure hardware is ok / taking out malfunctioning drive was good step

updating motherboard is something that showed great improvement

reinstalling FF did also do good...but i think a total erasing and reinstalling would be better as Cor-el wrote

when i do...i'll let it know

ow yes...and trust in the mozilla support team

thanks guys (girls included)

SOLUTION: i went in register via ccleaner and erased the one fault after i scanned for the second time...it was a keygenerator for a program acid 4.0 in my case..

This is not a cure but will make it easier if Firefox locks up. https://support.mozilla.org/questions/997866 {web link}

From what I have been reading from other posts on this forum, the issue may be caused by the clear history settings. It was suppose to have been fixed in v30.

Press the Alt or F10 key to bring up the tool bar. Followed by;

Windows; Tools > Options Linux; Edit > Preferences Mac; application name > Preferences

Then Privacy.

The button next to History, select Use Custom Settings.

At the bottom of the page, turn on Clear History When Firefox Closes. At the far right, press the Settings button. Turn on ONLY Cache and Form And Search History leaving the others off.

hey,

thanks for the reply...

i tried it but it still the same...i read the internet and all i can come up with that looks similar to what happend is that i went on the 'taxonweb' site... the page did funny on the suggestpage by FF so i erased the tabsheet but no succes...

i tried everything that other people did...ccleaner; reset FF; even went in program files in search for something recognizable...

Are you using "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear the cookies? To see all History and Cookie settings, choose:

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"

Use "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit) to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

no i'm not erasing the cookies i think... i will try this now... pc is getting worse...probably by my messing about...

again thanks for reply

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

ok...update of the facts

i didn't do the new profile or new FF...it seemed such a long and risky proces plus i didn't think it would help my isseu...perhaps the FF reinstal would but still...i didn't want do go thru all tat work...sorry

so i did some Sherlock Holmes type of sh*t (pardon my French)

from time to time i got blue screen message of drive F (wich works fine) being the reason of shutdown to protect and i needed to CHCKDSK /F to see if it is broken When i did it said it couldn't park disk for another program is using it... Note that i only use this disk for databack-up and photo~/ videostorage

Sometimes i'd get message from vlc that it didn't like to have to be making connection to internet for some reason i didn't understand

i'm not a very bright mind when it comes to computing but could it be that i got something like a breach in privacy? that something or ~one was browsing in my data or video's? I'm actualy not realy all that interesting or is this just a fluke or bug due to conflicting app and hardware?

anyway...

so i disconnected the drive when pc was off...started her up (way faster than before) and guess what...ALL WORKS FINE
FireFox shuts down and start up by one click of a button again.

thanks for the reply...and help

learned a lot by reading and folowing the advise of you smart peoples

thank you Dave

weird thing is...

just had the blue screen again...same message but the only fact is that i dont have an disk/F anymore...

weird yes?

more options

ow and here is my "genius mind"... F doesn't relate to the disk/F... it is the F from fix error i just read... like i said before...i'm not a bright mind... ... but i'm honnest so that goes a long way yes?...

more options

and problems are back...sorry

more options

cant save to H:$Mft it says and freezes the windows...but mouse arrow still works... and it is H wich i cant lock

but this is a different problem so i'd better close this one

the answer must be in hardware conflicting network adapter perhaps

Frusty for sure

Do a disk check with the chkdsk.exe program. If you run the chkdsk.exe program from a cmd.exe Command window then you can read the response from the chkdsk.exe program. Open a cmd.exe window: Start > Run: cmd.exe <press Enter> At the command prompt (>) type or Copy&Paste: chkdsk.exe /f /r <press Enter> (put a space before /f and /r) If you get something like: Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? y/n then answer the question with "Y" and close all programs and reboot the computer.

more options

ok back with good news...

disk failure it must have been it didn't say so but it was that one giving trouble from time to time

plus windows was getting icons ans png's from the malfunctioning disk maybe that was why FF couldn't quit...

thank you all for all the help...

saved my pc from my foot

Dave

sorry no...it still does it...but less... perhaps these are the first sings of xp giving trouble due to the support-stop?

If possible, copy Everything to backup, then do a full format with the repair option.

If you are not sure of how to do this, DON'T ! ! ! Ask a tech.

You can also buy a new hard drive, have everything transferred to it, install the old drive as a second drive, and then format (with repair) the old drive.
