basically, when I boot up the mac, I click on the firefox icon...it just jumps and sometimes it executes. I probably would have to wait a bit for trying to get into the browser successfully. Anything I can do? Thanks

Hi, This article https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-takes-long-time-start-up suggests that you

  1. Change your homepage
  2. Check to make sure your extensions are up to date
  3. Check to make sure that your antivirus allows Firefox
  4. Check to make sure that you have the preference "Do not load tabs until selected"

However, I would recommend that you close other programs and clear the cache of the profile to increase the load time. How to clear the Firefox cache A quicker way to do this if you do not have any immediate data to save is to Reset Firefox. Recover important data from an old profile

Are you starting Firefox while the computer is still booting? Try to give it a minute or two.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode;

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?

Thanks for your response...that means a lot that others are actually reading my concerns. Fred: I did think about that and if you wait about 20-30 seconds, the problem isn't very "problematic," so to speak. However, I did some tests...I invoke Safari and there is NO problem. I invoke other programs, and there is no problem. There must be some inconsistency between Mavrericks OS and the latest version of Firefox. When I boot up my MacBook Air with Mountain Lion, I just click on the Firefox icon on the dock and in we go...No problem. Thanks.

Did you try to start Firefox in Safe Mode?

You can check if you can start Firefox in Safe Mode by holding down the Shift/Options key.

What is the startup (home) page?

Is that the about:home page or a web page on internet?

Nothing seems to improve this. I'm almost ready to boot up my old macbook pro with Snow Leopard and go back to the land of Oz. In a nutshell: very frustrated. There is no reason why I'd have to count to 30 once my mac boots up to invoke with a spinning wheel. Once in, all is ok, which is good. I may just be a traitor and go to Safari. ouch. HELP.
