messages disappearing

I'm using TB version 38.5.1 on Windows 10. Within the last hour, two important messages came in from a person, but they disappeared. I saw them show up in the lower right corner, but they did not show up in a folder. I have several filters, but none that should apply to this person. I checked every folder, especially trash and junk. They were not in any filter. I went to my ISP website and the messages are in the email there. I have TB on a backup computer, with pretty much the same folders and filters, and the messaged DID show up in the inbox there.

Is there a way I can find out what happened to the two messages and prevent it from happening again?
