Thunderbird 38.6.0 can't paste WITH formatting
Several days after updating to TB 38.6.0 on WIndows 7, pasting into TB from another application has begun to consistently lose formatting. It does not matter whether I use Ctrl-V or the "Paste" command from the Edit menu. This problem is limited to TB - other applications are not affected, and affects only 1 of 2 computers. The problem persists across restart of TB.
I know that TB has the option to remove formatting when pasting, but I almost never use it, and I can't find any setting that makes "without formatting" a sticky option, so I can't figure out what has happened or how to fix it.
I have tried erasing the profile and restoring from the other computer (they are configured the same). That did not change the behavior.
Very confused, George

There is a bug pasting HTML with formatting from Firefox 45 into a message in Thunderbird 38.x. This should not affect any other "source" applications; if it does, you may have uncovered a different issue. Can you test copying HTML with formatting from another browser?
More on the known issue:
- copy from Firefox, paste into Thunderbird does not include formatting
- After updating to Firefox 45.0 web document text formating and images are not copied into a new document
Possibly the difference between your systems is that the working one still has Firefox 44.0.2.

The problem TB would lose formatting regardless of source.
I do have the Firefox 45 issue on both machines - but with that it seems graphics also are lost in a cut/paste to TB along with text formatting. On the problem machine, I get graphics (if there were any) from sources other than FF, but I get only plain "body" style text.
On the good machine, TB 38.6 pastes correctly from other sources and the suggestion to use a copy intermediary with FF 45 works (I tried with LibreOffice Word).
The problem seems to have been resolved - at least temporarily - by completely uninstalling / reinstalling TB on the problem machine. I had to do it multiple times and run a registry cleaner before it worked.
Is it possible that the FF 45 update could have affected TB? It is the only thing I've done recently ... I haven't yet installed this month's MS "Patch Tuesday" updates.
Still confused but working again. Thanks, George
