Red broken lock on http sites tells users there is an error when nothing is wrong.
I maintain about 50 websites and I'm now getting complaints from customers who think their sites are suddenly insecure. Sites that don't collect personal information and don't have any login form. The use of the color red means "error" to people. It should really show a neutral color, or maybe a clear lock. If everyone continues to see a red broken lock on all http sites the symbol will become meaningless and ignored by most users. Or were you expecting all sites to suddenly install SSL certificates even when there is no need?
I'm referring to version 50.0.1.

hello, could you please provide a sample of a page without a login form that displays the broken secure site indicator?
This was the article that alarmed me. Was it inaccurate? http://tech.firstpost.com/news-analysis/google-chrome-and-mozilla-firefox-will-now-mark-unencrypted-connections-as-not-secure-359598.html
Note that it also has a broken lock.
