I recently upgraded from my old processor to a threadripper 1920x and so had to reinstall windows ( and thus firefox). Prior to this (aug 14-15), firefox worked fine. However now any time i try and watch a youtube video it crashes firefox with no crash report or anything. Yet, on 52.0.2 it plays youtube videos perfectly fine. I'm sure this is significant, but I have no idea what has changed in the meantime.

all my graphics drivers, flash, windows updates, and antivirus are up to date with the exceptions needed for firefox in the antivirus. I've tried safe mode with no addons and i've tried reinstalling several times. it always crashes the youtube video. I'm kind of at a loss here because i really like firefox but if i dont get this fixed i'll have to switch to another browser.

EDIT 1: also, forcing youtube to use flash seemed to help for a bit, but that didnt let me view youtube in the highest quality anymore. for example, a video i could watch in 1080 i could only watch in 720p on forced flash. this is particularly bad for me since i watch a lot of 4k content.

EDIT 2: These are all the reports I have. It has crashed probably 30-40 times, but it just crashes to desktop without making a report attempt or log as far as I can tell.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

Sorry. I put it back.

If I'm supposed to reference a separate bug report or follow some step in there for the audio dll, I'm afraid I don't understand. I tried searching for both mentions and got nothing back. Now the system file check says "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations." Any more suggestions?

Let’s do a full clean re-install; Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link}

Save the file. Then Close Firefox.

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86)

Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac

Linux: Check your user manual. If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it. See Install Firefox on Linux; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux

If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory. http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Do Not remove the profiles folder.

Look for, and rename any Mozilla or Firefox program folders by adding .old to them. Do not rename the Mozilla Thunderbird folder if there is one.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner if you have one. Then run the installer. If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.

Only safe mode seems to have done anything to keep the videos from crashing the browser, but there is no sound either. once i leave safe mode it crashes again.
