It would seem that you entered the password when you created the mail account and instructed Password Manager to remember it. This means thunderbird would connect automatically without needing to ask each time.
This is where saved passwords can be located.... 'Menu icon' > 'Options' > 'Options' > 'Security' > 'Passwords' tab click on 'Saved Passwords' button click on 'Show Passwords' button
Sending uses the 'smtp://' line for the mail account
The password you use to get mail is usually the same one as the sending mail. It is the same password you use when you want to see your emails via webmail account using a browser.
If you want to change a password, then this must be done via webmail account first and then edit the password in Thunderbird.
If the password is missing or wrong or you want to retype it, you can edit the password. Right click on the smtp line and select 'Edit Password' clear everything and type in password click on 'Close' click on 'OK'
