I noticed that my Frirefox loads a lot of websites with the HTTP protocol instead of HTTPS. The lock next to the addressbar is colored grey with a red line over it. So when I see this, I click the lock and choose "enable protection" to load it with the HTTPS protocol. However 70% of the sites then just refresh without HTTPS. I do not know what causes this, but it is very annoying. Mostly when I reboot the browser (close all tabs etc) it works fine again for a while.

Does anyone know how this can be fixed?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Does the Web Console show what (mixed) HTTP content is present on those pages?

You can check the Web Console (Tools -> Web Developer) for messages about blocked content and about the presence of mixed or unsafe content.

You can check the Network Monitor to see if content is blocked or otherwise fails to load.

If necessary use "Ctrl+F5" or "Ctrl+Shift+R" to reload the page and bypass the cache to generate a fresh log.
