I've upgraded computers to a 2017 Macbook Pro. It came with Sierra. I migrated all my data, apps etc from my older MBP. I started having the cursor arrow disappearing and made selecting Finder menu items impossible while Firefox was running. It even affects the Finder when FF is in the background while this is happening. I'm using Firefox 62.0.2. I've found that I can quit FF and the cursor goes back to normal. I can also restart the Finder and the cursor will resume normal function without quitting FF. I've refreshed FF. I also started with a new profile and still occasionally get this problem. I also disabled all add-ons without results. It doesn't happen if I'm not using FF. I don't think it is website related as it occurs on many sites. I've since upgraded to High Sierra and it still occurs. I've tried making the cursor larger with accessibility which didn't help.

OK, I believe I found the problem and it's me (and the new computer). Today I was having an issue that was causing continuous bongs as if I was hitting the wrong key multiple times and it was happening when the cursor was acting up. Well, I found that it was happening only when I had my left hand near certain keys which were thumb on command, then index finger over W or Q key for either quit or close window. I was trying to find out how it was sensing that as I wasn't pushing them. Then I saw the touch bar, which I'm new to, light up. I then realized my middle finger was resting on "esc" on the touch bar. So that took me two weeks to figure out. Hope this helps someone in the future or maybe I'm the only one to not figure this out right away as I usually have the sound muted so I didn't notice it.
