I'm running into a frequent problem. After using firefox for an amount of time, my bookmarks and history become "frozen".

The bookmark become kind of "read-only", I can't add, remove, or move any bookmarks at all.

As for history, pressing Ctrl-H still shows the links I visited, but all sites I visited after firefox "freezing" disappears once I restart the browser. All visited links don't change color to deep blue either.

As a result, I need to restart Firefox frequently. What is going on?

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To its right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Locate the places.sqlite file. Then rename it by adding .old to it. Restart Firefox.

A new places.sqlite file will be created using a bookmarks backup.

Is the problem still there?

I'm not certain, the problem only kicks in after using Firefox for a while. I'll have to wait and see

What security software do you have?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.

Try to clear "offline website data" once in Firefox. Remove the checkmark on all items except "offline website data" and set the time range to "everything".

The places.sqlite file contains your History and Bookmarks. And it looks like it is corrupted.

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To its right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Locate the above file. Then rename or delete it. Restart Firefox. The browser should then create a new place.sqlite and recover your bookmarks from the backup files. Note: Your history is not backed up and will be lost.

Is there any way to backup the history? The history is a feature I use regularly.

I don't know. Save/move the file to another location. Then post another question asking that.

Creating a new place.sqlite does nothing. Everything still freezes after using for a period of time.
