Hello GreenDogDemocrat,
If you are able to click on your Firefox Account (avatar) --> Manage Account --> Account Settings.
You should be able to clicking the picture or click Change... to the right of Account picture.
Perhaps restarting in Safe Mode and try the process again. Click the '3-bar' menu --> Help(?) --> Restart in Safe Mode --> Start in Safe Mode.
