I have to run an antivirus or malware scanner after using firefox or even opening firefox...if it is an addon which one is it,which one could cause this? How do i stop this from keeping on repeating itself?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing the problem by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.

Close and restart Firefox after each change via one of these:

  • "3-bar" menu button -> Exit (Power button)
  • Windows: File -> Exit
  • Mac: Firefox -> Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File -> Quit

I have to run an antivirus or malware scanner . . . .

How many scanners are you using?

Further information can be found in this article; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware?cache=no

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

I only need to use 2.Microsoft Security Essentials,and Malwarebytes Premium. The thing is..Malwarebytes misses it,and Sec essentials catches it each time.Even if i only just open firefox then close it right away,i still find the injector in a mic..sec.. scan. TY.

Hello cblake880,

Please see :

https://topvirusremoval.com/remove-adwarejs-injectorad-a-virus-from-computer

Check to see if you there are any extensions installed in Option => Add-ons = Extensions that you don't remember installing yourself, and if you find any : please remove them. Starting Firefox in Safe Mode will disable all of them, and you would have to re-enable them one by one to find the culprit, if there is one (and you have quite a few extensions .... )

Then look in Windows Control Panel => Programs for anything "suspicious".

And then run te malware scans that are listed in the article that FredMcD gave you a link to.

I was going to try the suggestions,but the thing has stopped happening.The injector no longer appears on a microsoft security essentials scan.Before i was going to try the fixes,i decided to get rid of some open tabs that were being saved from previous firefox browsing sessions. Can this injector be caused by addons? or youtube ?or what are the ways? Thanks all.
