I did a Firefox restore due to suspect browser hijack ( it wasn't). All mu saved logins have been eraases so tried to do a manaul sync.

This pops up a yellow bar along the top of the "Logins and Paswords" page saying "Please enter your master password to view saved logics and passwords" . I don't have a master password set so that makes little sense. To the right of the yellow bar is a button "login". if i click the button ther yellow bar goes away but there is no log in dialog.

What do I do to get Fiefox to sync?

In the event that the passwords information is lost, you should record all information in a separate text file somewhere else on your hard drive, or written down. You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password.

The answers seem to be n the wrong track.

I haven't forgotten any passwords. The problem is Firefox (a) Thinks I'm using a master password when I'm not (option is not checked) (b) Won't bring up the login dialog in any case. (c) Because of the above won't sync.

Did you ever used a master password in the past?

It is possible that there has been a problem with key4.db and that Firefox did fall back to key3.db as the key file. If key3.db does have stored a MP then the encryption key stored in this file might be able to access (decrypt) the login data stored in logins.json.

Do you still have a logins.json file in the profile folder that contains login data?

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
